I like to go out with my camera. It always pays off
I’m a German native, born and raised in a small town not far from the original frontier between capitalism and communism. To me, Moscow was the capital of this strange other place and it has always held a particular fascination for me.
I’ve been married to a Russian woman for eight years now and Moscow has since become my home. I’m completely enthralled by this city – by its beauty and by its extremes. I started a travel blog to share my experiences with the outside world, because many westerners still have a biased impression of Moscow to this day.
For westerners it represents a city of bitter cold, crime and poverty. The fuel in our car has been tapped and stolen countless times – maybe by the people that sleep near it and drink beer all the night – but the car itself was never damaged and the fuel cap was always neatly replaced.
I often go out with my camera to capture daily life here. The funny thing about Russia in general and the Novi Ruski in particular, is what the western world would refer to as scandalously poor taste: their shameless display of wealth, including half-naked girls. Well, at least it’s not boring and it certainly makes for great photos.
In the summer I went to a car show with a lot of fancy cars and even fancier women. But one dandy, I don’t know his name, beat them all. He hired the famous designer Denis Simachev to have his Porsche plated in gold.
Like I said, I like to go out with my camera. It always pays off.
